01/04/20 | Men's Basketball
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Payton Pritchard overcame a bloody nose to lead No. 4 Oregon to a gritty 69-64 win over Utah Saturday at the Huntsman Center.
Pritchard, who passed UO hall of famer Ron Lee on the Ducks' career assists list on Saturday, led Oregon with 19 points, while Chris Duarte and Will Richardson each scored 14.
"You could say it was a gritty win," said Richardson. "We had to fight them off. It tells us how hard we've got to work to get to where we want to be at."
How it Happened: Richardson's three-pointer put Oregon (12-3, 1-1 Pac-12) ahead 56-46 with 9:42 remaining, but Utah (10-4, 1-1) responded with a 12-0 run to take a 58-56 lead with 7:29 left.
Shortly after that, Pritchard collided with the Utes' Timmy Allen and had to leave the game with a bloody nose with 5:32 remaining.
With their leading scorer on the bench, Chandler Lawson put the Ducks ahead for good, 61-60, on a rebound bucket with 5:16 remaining.
Pritchard returned a minute after he came out of the game and helped continue an 8-0 run to put the game out of reach. Shakur Juiston had a pair of field goals in that final run.
Oregon jumped out to a 12-5 lead early in the game, with Pritchard scoring five of the Ducks' first 12 points.
After Utah took a 24-23 lead with 4:16 to go in the half, Oregon went on an 11-3 run, including six points from Richardson and four from Duarte, to take a 34-27 lead with 1:29 remaining in the period. Pritchard hit a jumper just before halftime to give the Ducks 36-31 lead heading into the break.
Duarte led Oregon with 12 points in the first half, while Richardson had eight. Both Duarte and Lawson each grabbed five rebounds in the frame.
Who Stood Out: Lawson led Oregon with eight rebounds while Duarte grabbed seven and Richardson and Juiston each had six as the Ducks outrebounded the Utes 41-36. Pritchard and Richardson each had five assists as the Ducks had 19 assists on 30 field goals.
