Ducks Picked To Win Pac-12
10/07/20 | Football
Media members covering the Pac-12 picked Oregon to win the North Division and the 2020 Pac-12 Championship game.
The Oregon football team was picked to win the Pac-12's North Division and go on to win the 2020 conference championship game by media who cover the Pac-12, the conference office announced Wednesday.
The Ducks, entering their third season under head coach Mario Cristobal, are defending Pac-12 Conference and Rose Bowl champions. They begin preseason practice Friday.
Oregon was picked to win the North Division for the sixth time in 10 years since the conference expanded. This is the sixth time the Ducks have been the media's preseason pick as conference champions, along with 2001, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014.
Of the 38 media members who participated in the poll, 35 chose Oregon to win the North, and 21 picked the Ducks to win the conference title game. California got the other three first-place votes in the North and was second in the poll, followed by Washington, Stanford, Oregon State and Washington State.
In the South Division, Southern California received 32 first-place votes, and 15 media members picked the Trojans to win the conference title game. Arizona State received two first-place votes and finished second in the polling in the South, and Utah was third in the division despite receiving four first-place votes.
ASU and the Utes each got one vote to win the Pac-12 championship game. UCLA, Colorado and Arizona rounded out the South, in order.
The Ducks, ranked No. 14 in this week's Associated Press top 25, are scheduled to open the 2020 regular season by hosting Stanford in Autzen Stadium on Nov. 7. The Pac-12 championship game is scheduled for Dec. 18.
