Ducks Take Down Santa Clara

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon men's tennis team earned their fifth-straight home victory with a 6-1 win Saturday afternoon over Santa Clara at the UO Student Tennis Center. The Ducks are back on their home courts Sunday at 11 a.m. (PT) to host Drake.
Oregon (5-2) claimed the doubles point with wins on courts one and two, and then secured the match victory with three-straight sets singles wins.
In singles play Jesper Klöv-Nilsson defeated Santiago Hinojosa in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to give Oregon a 2-0 advantage. After Riki Oshima increased Oregon's advantage to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Mann Shah, sophomore Joshua Charlton clinched the match for the Ducks with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Arthur Neuhaus. Charlton, ranked No. 14 in the ITA poll, is now 15-5 in singles play this season.
Coach Schyllander on Jesper Klöv-Nilsson: "He has been so solid. He's just been a tough out. He is so fit, can run forever and he does not make mistakes."
After the visitors took the win at No. 3 doubles, the Ducks posted wins on courts one and two to take an early match lead. On court one, Charlton and Ty Gentry, the No. 8 team in the country, earned a 6-3 win over No. 52 Neuhaus and Vasileios Iliopoulos. On court two Charles Roberts and Brandon Lam secured the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Mann Shah and Nick Cmager.
Coach Schyllander on Gentry and Charlton: "They have been setting the tone. They're playing with great energy and obviously they are one of the best teams in the country. I think their teammates know that most of the time they are going to win that No. 1 spot."
