LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Oregon junior pitcher Brooke Yanez earned NFCA National Pitcher of the Week honors Tuesday following an incredible debut weekend as a Duck at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
In her three appearances over the weekend, Yanez went 3-0 and posted a 0.50 ERA while striking out 25 and walking just two over 14 innings pitched. Her 25 strikeouts are 12th nationally while her 12.5 strikeout-to-walk ratio is ranked eighth in the country.
After picking up the win in relief in the opener, Yanez got the start in the circle in game two against BYU and fanned 17 while walking none in a complete-game victory. Her 17 punch-outs are tied for the second-most in a game in school history, while she is just the second Oregon player ever to fan 17 without walking a batter. Yanez struck out nine in a row at one point, while her strikeout total is good for the second-best in a game nationally this year.
The transfer lefty then got the start in the final game of the weekend, throwing four shutout innings against Long Beach State to pick up her third win of the weekend. In the opener against Utah Valley, Yanez struck out five without giving up a hit over three innings of relief to earn the win.
The transfer from UC Davis was named to the USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List prior to the season, and earned Big West Pitcher of the Year honors as a sophomore.
