02/23/20 | Men's Golf
PALM DESERT, Calif. – Tom Gueant posted a career-best finish and the first top-five finish by an Oregon player this year, coming in tied for third at 6 under while the Ducks placed tied for fifth at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at the Classic Club.
How it Happened: Gueant came into the day with a one shot lead and widened the gap with birdies on three of his first four holes to take a two-shot advantage. He remained tied for the lead after the opening nine despite bogeys at holes five and eight, finishing with a birdie at nine. Gueant couldn't get much going on the back nine, making two bogeys and no birdies to finish with an even-par 72.
Craig Ronne turned in the low round of the day for the Ducks, shooting a 2-under 70 to finish tied for 33rd at 2 over. The sophomore did all of his damage on the front nine, making birdies at two, five and nine following a bogey at the opening hole to shoot a 34 going out. Ronne made nine pars on the second nine to turn in the only under par round of the day for Oregon.
Yin Ho Yue shot a 1-over 73 and finished tied for 53rd while Nate Stember turned in a 2-over 74 and came in tied for 33rd. Auburn ran away with the team crown while Wyoming's Tyler Severin won the individual title.
