Oregon Closes Road Trip Defeating Azusa Pacific

Azusa, Calif- The No. 2 Oregon Ducks ended a three-meet road trip with a win, defeating the No. 4 Azusa Pacific Cougars, 281.300-277.390, on Thursday night at the Felix Event Center.
How it happened: The Ducks started the meet off strong, defeating the Cougars, 38.60-37.60, in the compulsory event. Oregon registered its best score in heat two of the event, scoring a 9.85.
Oregon continued to excel in the acro event. The 5-element acro group consisting of Katie Bachman, Calyx Hampton, Ashley Jamison, and Kyla Pollock tallied a 9.80 over Azusa Pacific's 9.70 to help the Ducks win the event, 29.20-28.75.
The Ducks went into intermission with a 96.850-95.300 lead over the Cougars. Oregon suffered its first loss in heat one of the pyramid event. Azusa Pacific tallied a 9.70, just edging out Oregon's score of 9.65. The Ducks rallied back and scored a 9.65 in the synchronized pyramid heat and a 9.75 in the open pyramid heat to defeat the Cougars in event four, 29.05-28.95.
The Ducks battled through a tough competition in the toss event to secure another Duck event win. Oregon outscored Azusa Pacific by half of a point, 28.85-28.80, to take a 125.70-124.10 meet lead.
Azusa Pacific kept it a tight competition in each event, especially tumbling. The Ducks started the tumbling event out strong, outscoring Azusa Pacific in the duo heat (9.50-9.20) and the trio heat (9.15-9.05). The Cougars fought back and scored higher than the Ducks in the quad heat (8.95-8.65) and the aerial heat (9.85-9.625). Senior Payton Coon earned a score of 9.850 in the 6 element heat, beating Azusa Pacific's score of 9.775, to register the highest score in the acro event for the Ducks. Both teams scored a 9.825 in the open heat, which led to an Azusa Pacific tumbling event victory, 56.65-56.60.
The Ducks came back strong in the team event and defeated the Cougars, 99.00-99.64, to secure the meet victory.
