Current, Future Ducks Dominate Player of the Year Watch Lists
02/05/20 | Women's Basketball
EUGENE, Ore. - Current and future members of the Oregon women's basketball team are dominating the late-season watch lists for national player of the year awards.
Oregon's "Big Three" of Sabrina Ionescu, Ruthy Hebard and Satou Sabally are all on the Late Season Top 20 Watch List for the Wooden Award, given to the national player of the year in college women's basketball. The Ducks are the only team with three players on the top 20 list, and one of only three teams with multiple selections, along with South Carolina and UConn.
Ionescu, Hebard and Sabally have led the Ducks to a 20-2 record so far in 2019-20, most recently guiding Oregon to a historic win at No. 4 UConn on Monday. Ionescu, the reigning Wooden Award winner, leads the team with 17.3 points per game while adding 8.7 rebounds and an NCAA-leading 8.6 assists per game, and she has five triple-doubles to extend her NCAA all-time record to 23.
Hebard is nearly averaging a double-double with 16.5 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, and Sabally's recent offensive tear has her second on the team with 16.6 points per game to go with 7.0 rebounds. Oregon is the only team in the nation with three players averaging at least 16.0 points per game.
At the high school level, five-star signees Sydney Parrish and Te-Hina Paopao have been named semifinalists for the Jersey Mike's Naismith High School Girls Trophy, awarded to the top high school player in the nation. All five of Oregon's incoming freshmen were on the top-25 midseason list, and the Ducks are the only team with multiple signees among the 10 semifinalists.
