Big Three Named to Wooden Award National Ballot
03/07/20 | Women's Basketball
LAS VEGAS – Oregon women's basketball's heralded "Big Three" of Sabrina Ionescu, Ruthy Hebard and Satou Sabally have all been named to the 2020 Women's National Ballot for the John R. Wooden Award, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced on Saturday.
Oregon leads all schools with three student-athletes on the 15-player ballot, and South Carolina is the only other team to have multiple players make the cut. The Pac-12 leads all conferences with six selections.
Ionescu returns to the national ballot after becoming the first Oregon player ever to win the Wooden Award last season, while Hebard and Sabally both make their first career appearances. The dynamic trio led the Ducks to a win over Utah on Friday night in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Tournament, setting up a semifinals showdown against Arizona tonight at 6 p.m. PT (Pac-12 Network).
The Wooden Award All-American Team, consisting of the nation's top five players and the finalists for the Wooden Award, which is widely considered the most prestigious honor in college basketball, will be announced following the "Elite Eight" round of the NCAA Tournament and will be the focus of a 30-minute show on April 1 on ESPNU at 6:30 p.m. ET. Ionescu has been a Wooden Award All-American each of the last two seasons.
The 44th annual presentation of the John R. Wooden Award to the men's and women's most outstanding college basketball player will be the anchor presentation of the ESPN College Basketball Awards Presented by Wendy's on ESPN2 on Friday, April 10.
