EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women's basketball team received a big roster boost on Wednesday afternoon as transfer guard Taylor Mikesell was granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA for the upcoming 2020-21 season.
One of the nation's best shooters, Mikesell announced her decision to come to Oregon in May after spending her first two collegiate seasons at Maryland. The Massillon, Ohio, native will be a junior for the Ducks in 2020-21.
"We are incredibly excited to know we will have Taylor available to play this season," said head coach Kelly Graves. "Taylor is a true shooter who will really open things up for us offensively, and her veteran leadership will be important for this young team. Duck fans are really going to enjoy watching her over the next two seasons."
Mikesell averaged 12.3 points per game and shot 41.8 percent from three-point range while starting 66 straight games over two seasons for Terrapins. She was the Big Ten freshman of the year in 2018-19 after averaging 13.4 points per game, and she followed that up with 11.2 points per game last season as a sophomore.
Mikesell ranked in the top 25 in the nation in three-point percentage in each of her two seasons at Maryland, shooting 41.1 percent as a freshman and 42.5 percent as a sophomore. Her 95 made three-pointers as a freshman are a Maryland single-season record for both men and women.
With Mikesell cleared, the Ducks have 13 eligible student-athletes currently on their 2020-21 roster. Mikesell will join returners Erin Boley, Taylor Chavez, Lydia Giomi and Jaz Shelley, redshirt sophomores Sedona Prince and Nyara Sabally, fellow transfer Arielle Wilson, and incoming freshmen Angela Dugalic, Te-Hina Paopao, Sydney Parrish, Maddie Scherr and Kylee Watson.
