Rematch With WSU Kicks Off Second Half of Pac-12 Play
01/20/21 | Women's Basketball
EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 13 ranked Oregon women's basketball team will be back in Matthew Knight Arena this weekend to kick off the second half of the 22-game Pac-12 Conference schedule, beginning with a much-anticipated rematch with Washington State on Friday night at 5 p.m. PT.
Oregon fought back from a nine-point deficit to defeat the Cougars, 69-65, in Pullman on Dec. 21, fueled by a 19-point, 14-rebound double-double from Nyara Sabally as well as 18 points on 5-of-5 shooting from three-point range by Erin Boley. Boley and Jaz Shelley both hit clutch shots late to give Oregon the lead, and freshman Maddie Scherr came up with a crucial steal and hit two free throws to ice the game.

Series History vs. Washington State
All-Time Series Record: Oregon leads, 69-19
Current Streak: Oregon W6
Last Meeting: Oregon won, 69-65 (12/21/20, in Pullman)
Numbers to Know
1.34 - Oregon ranks No. 16 in the nation and third in the Pac-12 with a solid 1.34 team assist-to-turnover ratio.
6 - The Ducks have won 6 straight meetings against WSU, including a thrilling 69-65 comeback win in Pullman on Dec. 21.
11 - Oregon has had 11 different players combine for 44 double-figure scoring performances through 12 games.
14 - Nyara Sabally had 19 points and a career-high 14 rebounds against WSU on Dec. 21, her second of three double-doubles.
22.8 - Oregon is No. 2 in the Pac-12 and No. 13 in the nation with a +22.8 scoring margin, including eight wins of 20 points or more.
47.7% - The Ducks lead the Pac-12 and rank 15th in the nation this season with a 47.7 team field goal percentage.
Goals Still Intact
Oregon has gone 2-3 since that win at Washington State and is coming off a 57-41 loss at No. 11 Arizona last Thursday, a solid defensive showing that was squandered by the program's worst offensive display since 2017. Despite some recent growing pains, Kelly Graves' young squad sits in fourth place at 7-3 in Pac-12 Conference action and is still very much in play for a fourth straight league title. No. 5 Stanford currently leads the conference at 8-1.
The Ducks return to MKA this weekend for the first time since Jan. 3, when their NCAA-leading 27-game win streak and 22-game home win streak both ended with a nail-biting 73-71 loss to now-No. 6 UCLA. Oregon is 53-3 at home since the start of the 2017-18 season, including 4-1 so far in 2020-21.
Depth on Full Display
Despite having to replace four starters - including three top-10 WNBA Draft picks - Kelly Graves boasts one of the deepest teams in the country this season. Oregon has already had 11 different players combine for 44 total double-figure scoring performances through 12 games, and six different Ducks have led or tied for the team lead in scoring at least once. At least 10 Ducks have scored in eight of the first 12 games, including seven straight to open the season, and Nyara Sabally (12.5), Erin Boley (11.5) and Te-Hina Paopao (11.5) are all averaging double figures with five more Ducks averaging at least 5.0 PPG.
Sabally Well Worth The Wait
It's been a long two-plus years for Nyara Sabally - who lost the opportunity to play with her sister Satou Sabally after suffering knee injuries in each of her first two seasons as a Duck - but 12 games into the 2020-21 season it seems the 6-foot-5 forward was well worth the wait. Sabally is one of only two players in the Pac-12 - along with Colorado's Mya Hollingshed - to lead their team in points (12.5 PPG), rebounds (8.0) and blocked shots (14), and she is No. 1 in the conference with an impressive 3.4 offensive rebounds per game. The Berlin, Germany, native leads the Ducks with three double-doubles, posting 19 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in Oregon's win at Washington State on Dec. 21. Sabally is shooting 54.9 percent (62-of-113) from the floor and leads UO with nine double-figure scoring games, including seven straight entering Friday's rematch with the Cougars. The redshirt sophomore posted her first career double-double in the Pac-12 opener vs. Colorado (Dec. 4) with 20 points and 10 rebounds while going a perfect 9-of-9 from the field, tying for the seventh-best individual shooting performance in UO single-game history. "It hurt my heart my heart to not be on the court with my teammates," Sabally said after the Colorado game. "Now that I'm on the court, it's the best feeling ever."

Quick Hits: #21 Erin Boley

» Collegiate Career (120 GP, 93 GS): 9.6 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 0.8 APG, .451 FG% (420-931), .426 3PT% (252-592), .857 FT% (60-70).
» 1,152 total points in her collegiate career; 87 points away from becoming 33rd 1,000-point scorer in Oregon history.
» Currently No. 5 all-time at Oregon with 205 made three-pointers as a Duck; 6 away from No. 4 (Maite Cazorla, 211).
» Second on the team with 11.5 PPG and eight double-figure scoring performances through 12 games, including seven in Pac-12 play.
» Has already made more two-point field goals this season (36) than she did in all of 2019-20 (30).
These Freshmen Are ... Wow
The Ducks reloaded this year's roster with the first top-ranked recruiting class in program history, bringing in five top-25 players who were all Gatorade state players of the year and McDonalds all-Americans. Oregon's "Fab Five" has immediately lived up to the hype, combining for 347 points, 170 rebounds and 89 assists and 16 total double-figure scoring performances through 12 games. The five freshmen combined for 41 points on 51.5 percent shooting with 16 assists in Oregon's 100-41 win at California on Jan. 10, matching or outperforming the entire Golden Bears squad (41 Pts, 29.1 FG%, 10 Ast) on their own in all three categories. Te-Hina Paopao has started all 12 games and is averaging 11.5 PPG with eight double-figure scoring games while ranking third in the Pac-12 with 52 total assists, and Sydney Parrish (6.6 PPG) has three DFSG and was the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on Dec. 21. Maddie Scherr (3.5 PPG, 14 Stl) has been arguably Oregon's best on-ball defender so far, and Angela Dugalic (4.6 PPG, 5.5 RPG) has shown an ability to do a little bit of everything. Kylee Watson (2.8 PPG) played sparingly early on but has started to carve out a bigger role, scoring 11 points vs. USC (Jan. 1) and a career-high 12 at Cal.
Mega-Talented Prince Back In The Fold
One of the positive storylines from last week's loss in Tucson was the return of redshirt sophomore Sedona Prince, who suited up for the first time since Oregon's win at Washington State on Dec. 21. After missing the last two seasons due to a knee injury and then NCAA rules following her transfer from Texas, Prince has missed five games so far in 2020-21 due to an ankle injury sustained vs. Colorado on Dec. 4. A preseason all-Pac-12 selection despite not having played a collegiate game yet, Prince had 17 points in the season opener vs. Seattle and is averaging 7.6 PPG and 3.9 RPG in seven appearances. The Liberty Hill, Texas, native finished with one point and five rebounds in 14 minutes at Arizona, and was on the floor to open the second half.

Ducks Hand Cal Worst Loss in Program History
After dropping consecutive games for the first time in nearly two years, the Ducks bounced back in emphatic fashion with a 100-41 win over California on Jan. 10 in Berkeley. Oregon handed the Golden bears their worst loss in program history, quickly making the game a blowout thanks to a 14-0 run between the first and second quarters and a 21-0 between the second and third quarters. UO had six players score in double figures for the second time this season (USC), with Taylor Chavez, Te-Hina Paopao and Nyara Sabally sharing the team lead with 13 points apiece while Kylee Watson added a career-high 12, Erin Boley finished with 11, and Taylor Mikesell had 10. Oregon reached 100 points for the second time this season, and first in Pac-12 play, while tying for the fewest points the program has allowed in a conference game (41) since Jan. 17, 2009.
