EUGENE, Ore. – For the 18th time in program history, the Oregon volleyball team has advanced to the NCAA Tournament as the 64-team field was announced Sunday evening on ESPN. The Ducks will travel to Omaha, Neb., to face Kansas in the first round Thursday at 2:30 p.m. (PT).
Â
On the heels of its Sweet 16 appearance during the unprecedented spring season, Oregon finished the 2021 regular season with a 22-8 overall record including a 13-7 mark in Pac-12 play. Sunday's selection marks the program's fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament under head coach Matt Ulmer.
Â
"This group has worked really hard," Ulmer said. "We've gone through a lot of stuff this year, as a lot of people have, but I'm proud of our perseverance and resiliency. We're excited to go to Omaha and have a chance to keep playing. It's a really talented quadrant and we're excited to be part of it."
Â
Kansas, Thursday's first-round opponent, enters the postseason with a 16-11 record. The two programs have played three times previously but not since 2008. The other half of the Omaha quadrant features host and No. 14 national seed Creighton (30-3) and Ole Miss (21-8).
Â
Omaha was also the lone site of the NCAA Tournament held in a bubble last spring. The Ducks are 5-3 in the NCAA Tournament under Ulmer including an Elite 8 appearance in 2018 along with last year's trip to the Sweet 16.
Â
Oregon faced nine teams NCAA Tournament teams during the recently completed regular season. The Ducks are one of six teams from the Pac-12 in the tournament field.
