No. 18 Ducks Sweep Cal in Berkeley

BERKELEY, Calif. – The No. 18 Oregon volleyball team capped its weekend in the Bay Area with a sweep of Cal (25-18, 25-17, 25-16) Sunday afternoon at Haas Pavilion. Brooke Nuneviller led all players with 14 kills and the Ducks held Cal to a .032 hitting percentage on its home floor. With the win, Oregon moves to 18-6 overall with a 9-5 mark in Pac-12 play.
The Ducks have won 15 of the past 17 meetings with Cal, 13 of those coming in straight sets. Coupled with Thursday's win at No. 19 Stanford, Oregon posts its first weekend sweep in the Bay since 2011.
Up Next: The Ducks are back home next weekend to host the L.A. schools in Eugene, beginning Friday against USC at 4 p.m. (PT). As part of a doubleheader at MKA, the UO men's basketball team will play SMU following the match at 8 p.m.
Nuneviller was joined in double figures by Morgan Lewis who put down 10 kills against the Bears. Gloria Mutiri added seven kills on the right side while Kiari Robey and Taylor Williams each had six kills in the match. Robey also registered a match-high five total blocks. The Atlanta, Ga., native tallied 12.0 blocks in two matches this weekend.
Libero Georgia Murphy led the Ducks' effort behind the block with a match-leading 16 digs, and moves within 10 of the 1,000 career milestone. Murphy was also one of four UO players with an ace against the Bears. The Ducks finished the afternoon with six service aces, two each from setters Elise Ferreira and Kylie Robinson and one from both Murphy and Becca Morse.
With a 2-0 match lead in hand, Oregon were slow out of the gates in the third set with Cal (7-18, 0-14) jumping out to an 8-1 advantage. However, the Ducks reeled off 12-consecutive points, capping the run with a kill by Nuneviller. The lead grew to 19-12 after a kill by Taylor Williams. After a block gave UO its first match point, Robinson closed it out with an ace.
The Ducks cruised through the opening set and looked to be in control of the second with a 16-11 lead but Cal put together a five-point surge to pull even. Head coach Matt Ulmer used his first timeout and out of the huddle, Oregon responded by winning nine of the last 10 points of the set.
