Four Wins, Six Season Bests in Air Force Finale
02/27/21 | Track and Field
USAFA, Colo. – With a final opportunity to improve national standing before next week's NCAA selections, the UO sprinters and jumpers collected four wins and six season bests Saturday afternoon at the Championships at the Peak, hosted by Air Force.
The list of UO winners features Micah Williams (60m), Brianna Duncan (60m), Emily Sloan (60H) and Dominique Ruotolo (triple jump). Because of the altitude in Colorado, all sprint times are converted to add .04 for national qualifying purposes.
In the men's 60 meters, Williams became the No. 7 performer in NCAA history with a winning time of 6.49 which also bettered his own school record and NCAA-leading mark. Williams led a 1-2-4 finish for the Ducks with Gaston Bouchereau and Xavier Nairne, respectively.
Bouchereau's time of 6.61 is a personal best and moves him to No. 4 on the all-time UO list. He entered the day outside of the top-16 qualifying group but now sits tied for 12th (6.65) in the country.
Duncan led a 1-2-3 sweep for the Women of Oregon in the 60 meters, stopping the clock in a personal best of 7.20 to win the final. Duncan entered the day with a season's best of 7.28 but currently sits among the top 10 in the NCAA (7.24), and moved from 10th to tied for ninth on the program's top-10 list.
Teammates Kemba Nelson and Jadyn Mays rounded out the sweep in 7.27 and 7.30, respectively.
For a second time in as many days, Sloan lowered her personal best in the 60-meter hurdles with her winning time of 8.02 in Saturday's final. With the altitude at Air Force, that time will convert to 8.06 for NCAA seeding which is currently tied for fifth national based on marks entering the day. Sloan began the season with a best of 8.18, and has now run five times faster than that in 2021.
In the only field action of the weekend for the Ducks, Ruotolo and Lexi Ellis went 1-2 in the triple jump. Ruotolo won with a personal-best attempt of 13.38m/43-10.75, a top-10 national mark this season. She came into the weekend with a best of 13.15m which had her right on the bubble at No. 16 in the NCAA. Ellis turned in a season best of 13.09m/42-11.5 in the silver finish.
The top 16 declared athletes in each event and top 12 in relays will advance to the NCAA Indoor Championships. The full list of entries is scheduled to be announced Tuesday (March 2) evening. The 2021 NCAA Indoor meet will be contested March 11-13 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
