Doubles Point the Difference in Loss at WSU

PULLMAN, Wash. – Oregon picked up singles wins at the No. 1 through 3 spots but couldn't overcome a loss in the doubles point, dropping a 4-3 decision on the road against Washington State on Sunday. The Ducks finished the regular season 12-7 overall and 5-5 in Pac-12 play and will have two weeks to prepare for the Pac-12 Championships, which start April 23 in San Diego.
How it Happened: The Ducks fell behind 1-0 for just the third time all year with a loss in the doubles point. Oregon dropped matches at the No. 2 and 3 spots, losing 6-1 at No. 3 and 6-3 at No. 2 to fall into an early hole.
Janice Tjen put up the Ducks' first point of the match with her fourth straight win over a ranked opponent, taking her match 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. Julia Eshet fell at the No. 4 spot but Uxia Martinez Moral tied the match up again with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 3, making it 2-2 with three matches remaining.
However, the Ducks couldn't pull through at either No. 5 or 6, as Myah Petchey lost 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 and Allison Mulville fell 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the match for Washington State. Rifanty Kahfiani pulled out a win in a three-set battle at the No. 2 spot, taking a tiebreaker in the first set before going on to win 7-6(5), 2-6, 7-5.
