Ducks Climb Three Spots Against Stacked Field
10/04/22 | Men's Golf
FORT WORTH, Texas – Competing against seven of the nation's top 10 teams, Oregon shot an even-par 280 and climbed three spots on the final day of the Ben Hogan Invitational to tie for ninth Tuesday at Colonial Country Club.
"It was a difficult golf course and the best field in college golf," said Oregon head coach Casey Martin. "Obviously, we want to get better and clean some stuff up. But overall we showed we can play with these great teams."
How It Happened: Greg Solhaug fired a 2-under 68 Tuesday to lead the Ducks. He had three birdies and one bogey in his final round. Overall, Solhaug tied for 15th at 1-under 209. It was his eighth career top-20 finish.
The Ducks also counted a 68 from Greyson Leach, a 71 from Owen Avrit and a 73 from Aiden Krafft on Tuesday. For the tournament, Leach tied for 31st at 3-over 213, while Avrit tied for 44th at 5-over 215.
Oregon was one of just three unranked teams at Colonial this week, but finished in the middle of that pack.
No. 13 North Carolina won the tournament at 15-under. No. 7 Texas Tech was next at 6-under with No. 6 Arizona State and No. 25 Pepperdine tied for third at 5-under. No. 1 Vanderbilt was the fifth team to finish under par at minus-1.
No. 6 Oklahoma State led the next group at 4-over, followed by, No. 3 Stanford (5-over) and No. 19 Texas (8-over).
The Ducks tied for ninth with No. 19 Florida and TCU, matching the host school for the best finish among the three unranked teams.
Trailing Oregon was No. 2 Oklahoma (15-over), No. 8 Georgia Tech (15-over), No. 21 Wake Forest (16-over), No. 17 Georgia (19-over) and USC (31-over).
Notable: Solhaug played the par 5s in 5-under to tie for the tournament lead on those holes.
