EUGENE, Ore. — Averaging 27.5 points a game at the San Diego Invitational last week, Oregon freshman forward Grace VanSlooten grabbed both the Pac-12 Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week awards, the conference office announced Monday.
VanSlooten set a career high with 29 points against No. 3 Ohio State last Wednesday, going 11-for-16 from the field and 7-for-9 from the free throw line while grabbing nine rebounds and three blocks. In the Ducks' 85-78 win over No. 17 Arkansas on Tuesday, she scored 26 points on 10-of-19 shooting to go with six rebounds.
The Toledo, Ohio, native shot 60.0 percent from the field while grabbing 7.5 rebounds per game along with five blocks. VanSlooten has scored 26 or more in three of her last four games, averaging 23.5 points and 8.0 boards a contest while shooting 61.7 percent from the field in that span.
Her efforts helped the Ducks to a second-place finish at the two-day, four-team San Diego Invitational, as UO was one of three nationally ranked teams in the tournament field.
VanSlooten's 16.3 points per game this season are tops among Pac-12 freshmen and eighth-most nationally. She is one of two freshmen in the country to average at least 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists a game – and the only one shooting better than 50.0 percent
VanSlooten earns her second consecutive Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award and third of the season overall to pair with her first Pac-12 Player of the Week nod. She becomes just the third player in conference history to sweep both weekly awards since the league began handing out two weekly honors in the 2012-13 season, and first since Oregon's Sabrina Ionescu did so on Feb. 13, 2017.
The Ducks have now claimed a conference-leading five Pac-12 weekly awards this season, including Endyia Rogers' player-of-the-week recognition on Dec. 12 to go with VanSlooten's four weekly honors.
No. 17 Oregon (10-2, 1-0) returns to action Friday against No. 10 UCLA at Matthew Knight Arena. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. PT with television coverage on the Pac-12 Networks.
