A&T Drops Season-Opening Meet at No. 1 Baylor
02/27/22 | Acrobatics & Tumbling
WACO, Tex. – Oregon posted strong performances in multiple heats, but the Ducks were unable to string together enough high scores to knock off top-ranked Baylor, falling 281.505-275.495 in Waco.
Oregon (0-1) was competing for the first time in 2022 and the Ducks posted two heat scores that equaled or bested their top performances in all of 2021. The Bears (3-0) proved to be the more consistent team on the mat though, winning all six events.
How it Happened: The Ducks competed from behind for much of the meet after scoring a 36.350 in the compulsory event. UO scored a 7.400 after a fall in the acro heat, but rebounded with 9.80 and 9.85 scores in the pyramid and toss heats.
Oregon tied its 2021 season-high in the 6-element heat of the acro event, posting a 9.90. Unfortunately for the Ducks, Baylor tied them in the heat and extended its lead to 98.100-94.800 after the pyramid and acro events.
The Ducks posted two more strong scores in the tumbling event. The duo tumbling pass score of 9.25 would have been the second-highest score in 2021 while the aerial pass score of 9.875 would have been a season-high. Baylor won the event 58.075-56.575 to extend its lead to 184.425-178.675 heading into the team event.
UO's team event score was 96.820, which would have been third-best last season but was not enough to overcome Baylor's lead entering the event.
Up Next: Oregon returns home to square off with No. 6 Gannon. The meet will begin at 4 p.m. in Matthew Knight Arena.
