Gannon Knocks Off Oregon
03/05/22 | Acrobatics & Tumbling
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon improved in several areas in its second meet of the 2022 season, but the third-ranked Ducks were not able to consistently post the high scores needed to overcome No. 6 Gannon in a 275.690-271.270 defeat.
The Ducks (0-2) earned improved scores in the compulsory and toss events, as well as individual heats in the acro, pyramid and tumbling events. The Knights (5-1) recorded their highest overall score of the 2022 season to earn the win.
How it Happened: The Ducks were behind early in the meet after dropping the compulsory event. Though they trailed 38.50 to 38.10, Oregon's score was nearly two points higher than the previous meet. The Ducks made improvements in the acro, pyramid and toss heats.
Oregon faltered in the acro event as they scored an 8.95 in the 7-element acro heat and finished the event with a 27.45 to fall behind 67.700-65.550.
The Ducks rebounded in the pyramid event. Though they dropped the event 29.55-29.30, Oregon's score was a .10-point improvement over the previous week. The inverted and synchronized pyramid heats both saw better scores in the second meet of the season.
Oregon also saw signs of growth in the toss event. The Ducks had a start value a full point lower than Gannon's and fell in the event 28.80-27.50, but they earned higher scores in both the 450 Salto and synchronized heats.
Alyssa Hew provided the highlight of the tumbling event, scoring a 9.85 on the open pass. The Ducks also made a .35-point improvement in the quad pass with Hew, Alena Aucker, Jade Albalos and Emma Keogh scoring just .30 points below their start value.
