Oregon Bests Hawai’i Pacific in Honolulu

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon put together its most consistent performance of the season to knock off No. 5 Hawai'i Pacific 275.285-271.865 on Saturday evening.
The third-ranked Ducks (1-2) either tied or bested their season-high in 10 heats and three events to lock up Taylor Susnara's first win as a head coach.
How it Happened: The Ducks won the compulsory event for the first time in 2022, outscoring HPU (0-4) 37.60-36.85. Oregon tied its season-high with a 9.50 in the acro heat, helping it overcome an 8.60 in the tumbling heat.
UO fell behind after a fall in the 7-element acro heat, scoring a 7.60 in the heat and trailing 65.10-64.40 after the event. Oregon mitigated the damage by scoring 9.40 and 9.80 in the first two heats of the event to keep it close.
The Ducks rebounded in a big way in the pyramid event, winning it 29.75-28.15. Oregon scored a 9.95 in the inverted pyramid heat, its best score in the heat since March 26, 2018. In total, the 29.75 event score was a season-high and put the Ducks back in front 94.15-93.25.
Oregon continued its strong performance with another season-best in the toss event. The Ducks won the event 27.90-27.70, expanding the advantage to 122.05-120.95. UO tied or bested its best scores of the 2022 season in all three heats.
Alyssa Hew and Karly Nowak highlighted the team's performance in the tumbling event. Hew scored a season-best 9.925 in the open tumbling heat while Nowak recorded a 9.85 in the aerial tumbling heat. The Ducks also earned their best scores of the season in duo and trio tumbling. Nowak and Kaylie Barrera locked up a 9.60 in duo before Sara Buchner, Aneesa Ochoa and Haley Ellis equaled that score in the trio heat.
Oregon had a fall in the final seconds of the team event, but the Ducks put together an otherwise strong performance and won the event 95.91-94.99 to secure the overall victory.
