De Klerk Earns Pac-12 Weekly Honor
03/29/22 | Track and Field
Mine De Klerk currently owns top-12 national marks in the shot put and discus.
EUGENE, Ore. – Powered by a pair of top-12 national performances at the SDSU Aztec Invitational, UO freshman Mine De Klerk has been named the Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Week. She becomes the first UO woman to win the league's weekly field athlete honor since Chaquinn Cook in 2018.
Â
In her first event last Saturday, De Klerk bettered her own South African U20 record in the discus with a toss of 54.22m/177-10 in the first round. With that mark, De Klerk moved to No. 5 on the program's top-10 list and currently ranked 12th in the NCAA.
Â
The Welkom, South Africa, native then added a measure of 17.04m/55-11 to win the shot put. The effort made De Klerk the No. 2 performer in Oregon history, trailing only school-record holder Brittany Mann. The throw also puts De Klerk at No. 4 in the NCAA heading into April. In the same event, teammate Jaida Ross established a new lifetime best of 16.80m/55-1.5 to jump to third on UO top-10 list and 11th in the country.
Â
The Ducks open their 2022 home schedule next weekend with the Hayward Premiere (April 1-2). Single-meet and season tickets for the Oregon home schedule, and all-session tickets for the Pac-12 and NCAA Championships are currently available for purchase, click HERE or call 800-WEBFOOT (932-3668).
Â
Through their first two weekends of the 2022 outdoor campaign, the UO men and women have posted 17 top-25 national marks including an NCAA-leading performance by Jadyn Mays in the 200 meters.
