Ducks Fall in Regional Final

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Oregon's 2022 season came to an end in a 9-3 loss to fourth-seeded Arkansas Sunday in the NCAA Fayetteville Regional final before 3,058 at Bogle Park.
The Ducks end their season at 33-18 after making their second straight NCAA Regional final under coach Melyssa Lombardi.
"In postseason, you get to play the best and you want to beat the best," said. Lombardi. "You get to play the best and you need to beat the best. That's where you really get to see where you're at."
How it Happened: After Arkansas, 47-9, built a 3-0 lead with three solo home runs through the first four innings, Oregon tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning on one of the wildest plays of the season.
Hanna Delgado led off with a walk and Allee Bunker singled to give the Ducks runners at first and second with nobody out. On a 2-2 pitch, Ariel Carlson grounded a ball through the hole between shortstop and third for a double that scored Delgado.
The throw by Arkansas leftfielder Hannah McEwen trying to get Carlson at second base went into right field, allowing Bunker to score and Carlson to advance to third. Then right fielder Kacie Hoffman's throw hit Carslon at third and rolled toward Oregon's dugout as Carlson scampered home to tie the game at 3-3.
Arkansas broke the game open in the sixth inning. The Razorbacks took the lead on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and then pinch-hitter Mallory Hedgecock lifted a fly ball to deep center field that went off the end of Jasmine Williams' glove for a three run double that made it 7-3. KB Sides followed with a home run for a 9-3 Arkansas lead.
"I think we definitely had some bright spots and we were right in there with it," said Lombardi. "The biggest thing for us is just to finish. To be able to get there and understand how to do that is the biggest thing we'll walk away from."
Noteworthy: KK Humphreys' throwing error in the top of the sixth was the Ducks first error of the regional. … The Ducks finished the season with a .977 fielding percentage which is tied for the program record set last season. … Carlson claimed the Ducks' RBI lead with her 42nd of the season in the fourth inning. … Bunker's two hits gave her a team-best 65 on the season. It was her 16th multi-hit game of the season. Carlson and Humphreys also had two hit days for the Ducks. … Oregon's 68 home runs rank seventh in program history, while its .503 slugging percentage is No. 6 all-time. The Ducks' 88 stolen bases represent the fifth-best single season total in program history.

"This team persevered all year long. I can't say how proud I am of them and I know this hurts right now, but I just think for our athletes that are coming back, what it's going to do for them, the experience that they gained."
Catcher Terra McGowan
"I honestly think "Version 4" is the key to the future of this program. I think we figured out a lot and there's not going to be many more moving pieces after this. I think we have a solid culture and it's fun to celebrate that."
