EUGENE, Ore. – Head coach Taylor Susnara added the final piece to her 2023 coaching staff with the hiring of new assistant coach and Oregon Acrobatics and Tumbling alumna Shelby Armstrong.
"We are thrilled to welcome Shelby back to Oregon," said Susnara. "We went from teammates to now co-workers, and I could not be more excited for the future of our program. Shelby brings a unique perspective and extensive background having started two A&T programs from the ground up. Her ability to connect, her passion and her dedication is unmatched!"
Armstrong most recently served as the head coach at Mars Hills University. While there, she spearheaded the efforts to prepare the Lions for their inaugural season in 2022. Leading all aspects of managing practice and athlete development, the lions posted a program-best score of 239.265 in the final meet of the 2022 season.
In 2016, Armstrong began at Davis & Elkins College and led the school into its introductory season. After the first season in 2018, the Senators captured their first two victories in program history in 2019. Three members of the Senator's Acrobatics and Tumbling program received all-conference honors during the 2019 season, headlined by freshman Tumbler Nina Day named 1st Team All-MEC. Before the cancellation of the 2020 season, the Senators set a then program-high score of 243.865 against #3 Quinnipiac. From 2018-2020, Armstrong served as the representative for Davis & Elkins College on the Mountain East Conference diversity and inclusion committee.
"I could not be more excited to return to the place where it all started and join the coaching staff of my alma mater to help lead the Ducks this next season," Armstrong said. "Oregon's campus and community have held a special place in my heart. Once a Duck, always a Duck!"
As a student-athlete with the Ducks, Armstrong was a four-year letter winner at Oregon and was a pivotal piece to two NCATA National Championship teams. She graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor's in Social Science and a minor in Political Science. In 2019, Armstrong obtained her Master's in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University-Irvine.
