09/12/22 | Women's Golf
LAKE ELMO, Minn. - The reigning Pac-12 champion Oregon women's golf team kicked off its 2022-23 season on Monday at the Annika Intercollegiate, finishing with a 4-over 292 to close round one in a tie for fourth at Royal Golf Club.
The Ducks are tied with Duke in fourth place through 18 holes, eight strokes back of first-place Virginia (-4). Michigan and Texas are tied for second at even par.
How it Happened: Oregon was led by its three returners from last season's Pac-12 champion and national runner-up team. 2022 individual Pac-12 champion Hsin-Yu (Cynthia) Lu is the top Duck on the leaderboard in a tie for fifth after firing an even-par 72, Briana Chacon is tied for eighth at even par, and Ching-Tzu Chen is in a tie for 15th at 1 over.
Lu was 3 over through five holes, but turned things around quickly with four birdies and no bogeys in her final 13 holes. Chacon led the Ducks with 16 pars, making 12 straight following a bogey at No. 5 before finishing with a birdie at 18 to get back to even.
Texas transfer Ashleigh Park rounded out the counting scores with a 4-over 76 in her first round as a Duck, and freshman Anika Varma closed her collegiate debut with a 6-over 78.
