Newcomers Highlight Round Two

LAKE ELMO, Minn. - The Oregon women's golf team improved by three strokes from round one with a 1-over 289 in round two of the Annika Intercollegiate on Tuesday, with newcomers Ashleigh Park and Anika Varma combining to shoot 1-under par.
The Ducks fell on the leaderboard despite dropping strokes from Monday, moving from a tie for fourth to alone in eighth with 18 holes left to play on Wednesday. Virginia is the leader at 9 under, six strokes ahead of Wake Forest and seven up on South Carolina.
How it Happened: Park and Varma each came back strong after slow starts in their Oregon debuts on Monday.
Park matched senior Ching-Tzu Chen for the Ducks' top score of the day with a 1-under 71, shooting 2 under across her final 12 holes with 10 pars and two birdies. Varma also put together an impressive finish, making the turn at 1 over before closing with eight pars and a birdie at No. 15 to shoot even par.
Chen is Oregon's top individual through two rounds in a tie for 13th, sitting at even par after opening with a 1-over 73 on Monday.
Hsin-Yu (Cynthia) Lu completed the counting scores in round two with a 3-over 75, and she is tied for 22nd overall at 2 over.
