Matsuoka Set To Represent Canada At Super Sixes
10/04/23 | Women's Lacrosse
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon lacrosse student-athlete Alex Matsuoka will represent Team Canada this weekend at the World Lacrosse Super Sixes. The four-team event – featuring Canada, the Haudenosaunee, Kenya and the United States – will be held in Oshawa, Ontario, from Friday (Oct. 6) through Sunday (Oct. 8).
Matsuoka – who was selected for the squad in September - will be representing her country at the event for the second-consecutive year. Team Canada is looking to defend its title after defeating the Haudenosaunee, 17-4, in the gold-medal game in 2022. This is the third-straight year a Duck has represented Team Canada at the Super Sixes as Cassidy Eckert and former Duck Shonly Williams took part in the inaugural event in 2021.
The junior defender has played in 22 career games for Oregon, including 10 starts in 2023. Matsuoka served as part of the team's draw rotation throughout the 2023 season and caused a career-best two turnovers against USC.
The World Lacrosse Six on Six model is played on a condensed, 70 x 36 meter field with eight minute quarters and a 30 second shot clock. Teams field six players at a time and roster a total of 12 players.
