EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon quarterback Bo Nix was announced on Tuesday as one of three finalists for the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Player of the Year, and the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award.
The Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Player of the Year are both presented to the most outstanding player in college football. The Davey O'Brien Award is given to the nation's best quarterback.
Nix is joined by fellow quarterbacks Jayden Daniels (LSU) and Michael Penix Jr. (Washington) as the finalists for all three awards.
The winner of both the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Player of the Year and the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award will be announced live on Friday, Dec. 8, during The Home Depot College Football Awards show on ESPN.
Nix joins Dennis Dixon (2007) and Marcus Mariota (2014) as the only Ducks to be named finalists for the Maxwell Award, as well as Mariota, LaMichael James (2010) and Onterrio Smith (2002) as UO players to be Walter Camp Player of the Year finalists. Mariota, Dixon, Joey Harrington (2001) and Bill Musgrave (1989 & 1990) are joined by Nix as Oregon finalists for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award. Mariota is the only Duck ever to win each of the three honors, during his 2014 Heisman Trophy campaign.
Nix has put together a resume worthy of joining Mariota as the winner of all of those honors, leading the nation in passing yards per game (325.5) and completion percentage (78.6) entering Friday's 2023 Pac-12 Championship Game (5 p.m., ABC). Nix's 78.6 completion percentage is on pace to break the NCAA single-season record of 77.4 set by Mac Jones (Alabama) in 2020.
A native of Pinson, Ala., Nix ranks second in the nation this season in passing touchdowns (37), passer rating (189.82), total yards per game (338.8) and total touchdowns (43), and third in total yards per game (9.07). His 315 completions this season have already broken Mariota's single-season program record of 304 from 2014, and he five touchdown passes away from Mariota's program record of 42.
Nix has thrown just two interceptions while tossing 37 touchdowns, becoming just the fourth FBS player since at least 2000 with at least 35 passing touchdowns and less than three interceptions through 12 games.
