EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon head women's tennis coach Courtney Nagle announced the signings of incoming freshman Candela Aparisi and graduate transfer Nina Geissler to the Ducks' 2023-24 class.
Â
Hailing from Valencia, Spain, Aparisi comes to Eugene ranked at No. 517 in International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior rankings, No. 1151 in the ITF women's singles rankings and No. 1045 in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) doubles rankings. Geissler joins the Ducks after four accomplished seasons at LSU that included a 2020 All-Louisiana Second Team selection and a 2019 ITA Southern Regional doubles runner-up finish.
Â
"We are so excited to be adding Candela and Nina to the Duck family," said Nagle. "They are big additions for us who bring an elite level of tennis experience and character to our program. The future is bright and we can't wait to get started!"
Â
On the junior tour, Aparisi was the singles champion of the J5 ITF Silla-Saladar in Spain while winning the Master National Marca 16-and-under tournament. She won three consecutive regional doubles championships in Spain and earned a top-eight Spanish national ranking in players 16 and under.
Â
In professional events, Aparisi won the doubles title at the 15K event in Valencia, Spain, while reaching the quarterfinal round in doubles of the 25K tournament in Seville, Spain. She qualified through to the singles main draw at the Seville 25K event, earning a win over a world top-800 player on the WTA tour.
Â
"Candela's passion for tennis and professionalism are key for the future of our program and team culture," said associate head coach Elizabeth Lumpkin Robinson. "She exemplifies both incredible personal ambition and incredible care for her team. We can't wait to compete alongside her and support her every stop of her collegiate journey."
Â
Geissler, originally from Rheineck, Switzerland, comes to Oregon after spending the last four seasons at LSU. In her dual collegiate career, Geissler has racked up 30 singles wins and 27 doubles victories during the spring seasons. She reached an ITA doubles ranking as high as No. 14 during her sophomore season while earning a No. 26 ranking in her freshman campaign.
Â
Geissler was part of LSU's 10th-ranked recruiting class in 2019, as she reached an ITF world ranking of No. 137 as a junior. She claimed the 2019 Switzerland Girls 18s National Championship and represented her home country of Switzerland on the international junior stage in several events.
Â
"Nina's experience as an elite junior and collegiate player illustrate her standard of excellence," Lumpkin Robinson said. "Her experience will provide stability and depth for our team. Nina is as excited as we are to achieve as much as possible in her time as a Duck."
Â
The duo will join incoming freshman Tilde Jagare (Gävle, Sweden) as part of the 2023 signing class.
Â
Oregon (11-7, 4-4), currently ranked No. 43 in the ITA team polls, enters its final weekend of the regular season with home matches against UCLA (Friday) and USC (Sunday) before heading to the Pac-12 Tournament on April 26 in Ojai, Calif.
