04/29/23 | Football
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Offensive lineman Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu became the first Oregon offensive player taken in the 2023 NFL Draft on Saturday, going to the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round with the No. 199 overall pick.
Aumavae-Laulu is the fourth Duck overall to be picked in this year's draft, following cornerback Christian Gonzalez (No. 17, New England Patriots), edge rusher DJ Johnson (No. 80, Carolina Panthers) and linebacker Noah Sewell (No. 148, Chicago Bears).
Aumavae-Laulu played in 36 games across four seasons with the Ducks, making 29 starts including each of the final 22 at right tackle. He played 2,007 total snaps at Oregon, including 1,823 at right tackle, and was a two-time Pac-12 all-conference honorable mention selection.
The Hilo, Hawaii, native started all 14 games at right tackle for the Ducks in 2022, playing a team-high 902 offensive snaps. He earned a 77.0 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, and ranked seventh among Pac-12 tackles in both pass-blocking (77.8) and run-blocking (76.0) grades. Aumavae-Laulu allowed just 14 total pressures all season, and was the Pac-12 Offensive Lineman of the Week following Oregon's win at California.
Aumavae-Laulu started 10 of 14 games in 2021, playing all 710 of his snaps at right tackle. He helped the Ducks rush for 200 or more yards even times, including back-to-back 300-yard performances against the Washington schools. Aumavae-Laulu earned honorable mention all-conference in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, and appeared in two games in 2019 after transferring from Navarro College.
