Ducks Tie For Fifth At Pac-12 Championships
04/30/23 | Men's Golf
STANFORD, Calif. – The Oregon men's golf team tied for fifth place at the 2023 Pac-12 Championships after closing with a 9-over 359 in Sunday's final round at Stanford Golf Course.
Â
The No. 22 Ducks entered the fourth round just five strokes back of the lead but were unable to keep pace with No. 9 Stanford, which won the team title at 20-under par. Oregon was among a group of five teams that finished within three shots of each other, tying with Washington at 3-under par. No. 4 Arizona State finished second at 6 under, with Colorado and Washington State in a tie for third at 5 under.
Â
"It was a difficult day today," head coach Casey Martin said. "Lots of wind, and we just struggled to make enough putts to really contend. After a while it sort of beat us down, so it was a tough day. But we will regroup and be ready for NCAAs."
Â
Senior Nate Stember closed out a strong week with an even-par 70 to finish fifth overall at 7-under par, his second top-five showing of the season and fourth straight in the top 20.
Â
How it Happened: Stember was 2 over through his first four holes, but bounced back with birdies at No. 5 and No. 9 to make the turn at even par. He again rebounded from a bogey at No. 10 with back-to-back birdies at No. 13 and No. 14, before making a bogey at No. 15 and finishing with three pars to close with an even-par 70.
Â
Stember shot par-or-better in all four rounds of the conference tournament, and has finished par-or-better in 11 of his last 14 rounds.
Â
Senior Owen Avrit and sophomore Greyson Leach gave Oregon two more Ducks in the top 20, tying for 15th overall at 1-under par. Both Ducks closed the weekend with a 1-over 71 – Leach made a team-high five birdies, and Avrit made two with a team-low three bogeys.
Â
Sophomore Eric Doyle came in with a 3-over 70, and freshman Aiden Craft rounded out the counting scores with a 4-over 74. Â
