Ducks Rally for 13th Win in a Row

BERKELEY, Calif. – No. 14 Oregon scored six times in the fourth inning to complete a sweep of California, 8-5, Sunday at Levine-Fricke Field. The comeback win extended the Ducks' winning streak to 13 games.
With the win, the Ducks (35-11, 14-7) moved into a tie for second place in the Pac-12 with No. 10 Washington with only a weekend series against No. 23 Utah at the Jane remaining in the regular season.
"It's been a lot of fun," said shortstop Paige Sinicki, who made a trio of highlight reel plays on Sunday. "It's just our team doing our job just really working together to get these W's. It just feels great that we came out today with the W."
How It Happened: Cal (31-17-1, 7-13-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
The Bears took advantage of an error and a wild pitch to score two runs in the bottom of the first and added a third run on a Makena Smith home run in the third before the Ducks rallied in the fourth inning.
Oregon strung together five consecutive hits followed by a sacrifice fly and another hit to score six times in the top of the fourth.
Terra McGowan walked with one out and Ariel Carlson doubled into right center. KK Humphreys singled up the middle to score two and cut Cal's lead to 3-2.
Pinch-hitter Alyssa Daniell singled through the right side to move Humphreys to second. Vallery Wong then singled to bring Humphreys home and tie the game at 3-3.
After a pitching change, Tehya Bird singled through the left side and Daniell slid around the tag at the plate to give the Ducks a 4-3 lead. Wong moved to third on the play.
Paige Sinicki made it 5-3 on a sacrifice fly that scored Wong. Kai Luschar capped the inning by chopping a single to third that scored Bird for a 6-3 lead.
"I just try to get on base for my teammates and then do what I can," said Luschar. "Like try to steal a base, get a hit or score a run."
Kacey Zobac homered to get a run back for the Bears in the fourth to make it 6-4.
Morgan Scott pitched into the fifth inning to win her 12th game of the season. She gave up five runs – three earned – on six hits. Scott gave way to Stevie Hansen who got the final eight outs of the game to earn her first save of the season.
Hansen entered the game with a runner on and one out in the bottom of the fifth after Cal scored a run to get within a run of the Ducks at 6-5. She got out of the inning thanks to a brilliant play by Sinicki at short where she dove to her right to snare sharp grounder off the bat of Smith that was headed for left field and then threw to Bunker at second for the force out. Elon Butler then grounded out to Bird at third to end the inning.

"Defense wins championships," said Sinicki. "And any way we can keep the runners off the bags, it really helps us win the ball game. Just being able to make those plays out there for Stevie or any of our pitchers it feels great."
The Ducks added two crucial insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
McGowan singled to center to extend her career-best hitting streak to 10 games. Carlson then lined a single off the pitcher. Humphreys moved both runners over with a sacrifice bunt.
McGowan then came home on a wild pitch and Carlson went to third. Daniell hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Carlson for an 8-5 lead.
