Ducks Homer Five Times in Win
04/07/23 | Softball
EUGENE, Ore. – No. 18 Oregon pounded out 17 hits, including five home runs, in a 16-0 defeat of Lindenwood Friday night in front of 1,936 fans at Jane Sanders Stadium.
Â
The Ducks (25-11) scored 13 of their 16 runs in the first and second innings.
Â
"I really love how these guys swung the bat today," said head coach Melyssa Lombardi. "I felt like they really swung the bat with authority. I thought they put themselves in good counts."
Â
Ariel Carlson, Allee Bunker, Tehya Bird, Remmington Hewitt and Alyssa Daniell all homered for the Ducks on Friday.
Â
How it Happened: Oregon sent nine batters to the plate in a six-run first inning and followed that with a seven-run second inning.
Â
In the first, Hanna Delgado led off with her third triple of the season and scored on Kai Luschar's infield single.
Â
Luschar stole second before Bunker walked. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Terra McGowan's ground out to short scored Luschar for a 2-0 Duck lead.
Â
KK Humphreys then doubled to left center to score Bunker before Karissa Ornelas traded places with Humphreys with a double of her own to center field for a 4-0 lead.
Â
Carlson delivered the big blow of the inning, a two-run blast to the bleachers in center field. Her third home run of the season made it 6-0 Oregon.
Â
Bunker delivered her seventh home run of the year in the second inning, a three-run shot high off the netting beyond the left field wall that scored Delgado and Luschar for a 9-0 lead.
Â
Humphreys followed with her second double of the game and scored on Ornelas' single that made it 10-0. After Carlson walked, Bird lined a home run out to left and the Ducks led 13-0.
Â
"It is always great to see our hard work pay off," said Bunker. "After any game, we think about things we could do better regardless of how good or bad a game is. So, to see that, today payoff, we wanted to score early and that's what we did, that was our goal for today. I am glad we were able to achieve that."
Â
Oregon added three more runs via the long ball in the fourth inning.
Â
Hewitt, the only freshman on the squad, led off the by hitting the first home run of her career.
Â
Two outs later, Kedre Luschar singled and Daniell followed with the Ducks' fifth home run of the night.
Â
Stevie Hansen started and went three innings and did not give up a hit in improving to 15-4 on the season,
Â
Noteworthy: Eleven different Ducks recorded a hit Friday night … The 17 hits were the most by the Ducks since putting up 18 against Drake on Feb. 28, 2020 … Oregon's seven-run second was the most runs scored in an inning since the Ducks had 11 in the first inning March 3 against Cal Poly … Oregon's 16 runs were the second-most scored this season, trailing the game against Cal Poly (17 runs) … Kai Luschar extended her hitting streak to four games – her first four starts of the 2023 season – and raised her batting average to .667. She tied her career high – set four days ago against Montana – with three hits … Bunker moved into a tie for sixth in UO career RBIs with Alexa Peterson (2011-14) at 153.

Freshman Remmington Hewitt on her first career home run
"I just stepped into the box, just locked in just like any other at bat. Usually, once I get deep into those counts I start seeing the ball better and then (the pitcher) gave me a low pitch. She was giving me the high pitch and I just kept getting rid of it and then she came low with it and I just did what I did with it and got the barrel on it."
On Deck: The Ducks open a three game series at Arizona State on April 14 (6 p.m., Pac-12 Network.
