Drummond Adds Carrera To Lacrosse Coaching Staff
07/11/23 | Women's Lacrosse
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon Lacrosse head coach Jessica Drummond made the first addition to her 2024 coaching staff on Tuesday afternoon, announcing Carolyn Carrera as an assistant coach.
Â
Carrera joins the Ducks after an impressive playing career at Vermont where she played for the Catamounts from 2019-23 under Drummond.
Â
"I am thrilled to announce that CC is joining the staff at Oregon," Drummond said. "She had a phenomenal playing career at Vermont and I'm excited for her to step into this new role to share her knowledge of the game. I know that she will elevate those around her and be a great mentor for this team!"
Â
Carrera enters her first coaching role after racking up a number of conference accolades including American East Defender of the Year (2023) and two all-conference first team nods (2022, 2023). The Catamount Captain was named an all-America honorable mention by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) as a senior in 2022 after ranking second in the nation in caused turnovers per game (2.89) and third in ground balls per game (3.28).
Â
"I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to continue to work with Drummond and help build a successful program at Oregon with some amazing student-athletes," Carrera said. "After playing under her for the last five years I am excited to continue to learn from her and am so proud to join her as a Duck!"
Â
Carrera finished her Vermont career with a program-record 154 caused turnovers, setting both school and conference marks for caused turnovers in a season with 58 in 2023. The Harriman, N.Y., native led the nation in caused turnovers per game (3.63) in her final season, earning IWLCA All-Northeast First Team honors for the second-consecutive year.
Â
The Ducks return a wealth of experience for the 2024 season as 24 players from last year's squad – including all-conference second-teamer Morgan McCarthy and 15 other upperclassmen – will be on the roster.
