EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon lacrosse team fought until the very end but was unable to overcome an early deficit on Saturday, dropping a 15-10 decision to USC in its final game of 2026 at Papé Field.Â
The Ducks (6-10, 0-8 Big Ten) trailed 7-2 early in the first half but battled back to cut it to 8-5 at halftime. After USC (8-9, 1-7 Big Ten) pushed its lead to 15-7 in the second half, Oregon kept fighting and scored three goals in less than a minute before the clock ran out on the 2026 season.Â
Oregon honored its six-player senior class following the game, as Rachel Pallo, Kylee Manser, Jenae Sperling, Jadyn Laing, Shelby Hahn and Anna Simmons all concluded their UO careers.Â
"It's so amazing to be out here on Pape Field," head coach Jessica Drummond said. "They gave it their all, and I'm bummed with the outcome, but I'm also so proud of everything. We talk about how (the seniors) raise the standard of the program. They just do that. When you think of us, you just know we never stop believing. That is something we have been trying to instill in them from the start. This senior group has pushed the standard of how we show up for practices and games. They show up with a positive attitude and keep going after it.
"I love seeing them have fun and the joy. That's what lacrosse is about. I'm so grateful for the seniors. I want to give a huge shoutout to them for pushing each other and ending so strongly. We had 10 goals against a Big Ten team, which is pretty cool to end on that."Â
How it Happened: The Ducks got on the board first courtesy of Simmons, who scored less than three minutes into her final career game at Papé Field on an assist from Lilly Fortin. USC found the equalizer a couple minutes later, but junior Avery Young gave Oregon a 2-1 lead with a goal at the 9:01 mark.Â
USC got hot from there, scoring six unanswered goals to take a 7-2 lead midway into the second quarter. The Ducks were able to answer, though, ripping off three straight goals of their own courtesy of Lyla Hurley, Simmons and Liv Kozitza. USC ended the UO run with a goal with less than two minutes to go in the half, taking an 8-5 lead into the break.Â
Goalkeeper Kate Shields earned the start and helped keep the Ducks close in the first half, totaling five saves in the game's first 30 minutes.Â
USC went on another run out of halftime, scoring three straight goals to fuel an 8-2 run that made it 15-7 with just over thre minutes remaining.Â
The Ducks' energy never faded, and Hurley found the back of the net for her third goal of the game on a pass from Fortin. Emma Ing followed just 31 seconds later with a goal on an assist from Manser, and Hurley found Fortin just 15 seconds after that for a score. USC was able to secure the ensuing draw control and run out the clock to end the game.Â
Who Stood Out: Hurley recorded her second career hat trick with three goals while adding an assist, and Fortin matched her with four points on two goals and two assists. Simmons had two goals, an assist, four draw controls and three caused turnovers in the final game of a dynamic career, and Kozitza, Ing and Young each scored once. Hailey Russell also caused two turnovers, and Sheilds finished just one off her career high with 12 saves.Â
