Football Practice Recap: Aug. 18
08/18/23 | Football
The Ducks were back in action Friday, gearing up for a scrimmage Saturday afternoon.
Following a day off from practice Thursday, preseason camp continued for the Oregon football team with a workout Friday afternoon.
Come Saturday, the Ducks will hold their second major scrimmage of this preseason camp. Beginning next week, practices are scheduled to move from the afternoon to the morning, Oregon's more traditional practice time in recent years.
After Friday's practice, offensive line coach A'lique Terry, linebacker Jamal Hill and offensive lineman Junior Angilau met with local media. Those interviews are embedded below.
Some highlights from coach Terry …
On progress from the offensive line so far in camp: "The guys are playing at an extremely high level. We've got them playing a few different positions, so there's still some challenges going on as far as competition goes. The energy has been great and the juice has been great."
On what he's looking for as the Ducks try to replace center Alex Forsyth: "First off, snap consistency. You've got to make sure that the snaps are exactly where the quarterback needs it, and that it won't be a problem for the quarterback to take his eye off his read, because he knows where the ball is going to be. Secondly, confidence in the communication. We're going to start playing in front of 50,000 plus. You can't let that hinder your communication with the guys in front of you."
On pressure to replace last year's veteran O line: "I wouldn't call it pressure, but there is a standard. We say to ourselves that other people are going to put pressure on us, but we're going to hold a standard for ourselves that we want to keep it at. … The pressure is really on me. But I let them let me have all the pressure. You all go out there and play ball and have fun doing so."
