Football Practice Recap: Aug. 29

The Ducks are ramping up toward Saturday's season opener against Portland State (noon, Pac-12 Network).
Game week preparations continued for the Oregon football team Tuesday as the team was in shells for a morning workout on the program's outdoor practice fields.
The Ducks are ramping up for Saturday's season opener at home against Portland State. After practice Tuesday, veterans Jeffrey Bassa, Troy Franklin and Josh Conerly Jr. met with local media to preview the game.
Video of those interviews is embedded below. Some highlights …
Bassa on the sense of anticipation this week: "I think it's just been antsy in the facility. Guys have been ready to play different teams and, especially on the defensive side, see somebody else than our offense out there."

Conerly on preparing for his second season: "I'm super amped, because last year I feel like I was really nervous going into our first game. Being a lot more prepared and knowing what you're doing makes it a lot more exciting."
Bassa on expectations for the defense week one: "We've been trying to play the game before we play the game. So that's something that we focus on in practice — focusing on takeaways, because takeaways are gonna be a major thing in week one. On the offensive side, the offense has just got to protect the ball and then the defensive inside, we've got to take the ball away."
Franklin on expectations for the offense: "Not beating ourselves — no self-inflicted wounds. Just executing everything at a higher level, and doing what we know we're supposed to do."
