Oregon wrapped up its regular season Saturday with a loss to No. 4 Stanford.
EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon will play in the opening game of the Pac-12 Tournament on Wednesday after the Ducks fell 76-56 to Stanford on Saturday in the regular-season finale before 6,996 fans in Matthew Knight Arena.
The UO women (11-20, 2-16 Pac-12) will be the No. 12 seed into the conference tournament. They'll face fifth-seeded Colorado to open the event at noon Wednesday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
"We've got nothing to lose at this point," UO coach Kelly Graves said. "We can go down and play free and easy, and give it our best shot. They're a good team. … All we can ask Wednesday is to go down, play as hard as we can and let the chips fall where they may."
The Ducks trailed 37-22 at halftime Saturday, before outscoring the Cardinal in the third quarter. Oregon trailed by as many as 17 in the second quarter and cut the lead to single digits at one point in the third.
"I'm proud of our team, proud of the way we finished," Graves said. "Obviously not of the outcome, but I thought we did a lot of good things. We played hard. Stanford's just the better team right now; they're worthy Pac-12 champs and they showed why today."
Chance Gray had 18 points to lead the Ducks, and Grace VanSlooten added 10. After the game, the program honored its senior class of Ula Chamberlain, Bella Hamel and Kennedi Williams.
How It Happened: It was a defensive battle early, with Oregon taking a 5-4 lead six minutes into the game after a basket from VanSlooten and a three-pointer from Gray. The Cardinal ultimately led 13-8 after the first quarter.
The Cardinal opened the second quarter on an 8-2 run, and after a basket from Williams, Stanford scored another seven in a row to lead 28-12. The Ducks trailed by 17 late in the period, before heading into halftime down 37-22.
Three-pointers by Chamberlain and Gray to open the second half got the Ducks back within nine. After a Stanford bucket, Kennedy Basham cut the lead to single digits again with two of her nine points in the game, to go along with five rebounds and four blocked shots. Stanford pushed the lead back to 16 late in the period, before Sarah Rambus scored the final points of the quarter for the Ducks.
Gray had seven points and Basham had four in the fourth quarter. Stanford's biggest lead of the night was 74-52.
Up Next: The Ducks face the Buffaloes on Wednesday (noon, Pac-12 Network).
