Oregon Drops Match at No. 10 USC

LOS ANGELES – Going up against a lineup that featured two ranked doubles pairings and three ranked singles players, the No. 67 Oregon women's tennis team battled against No. 10 USC Friday afternoon but lost 4-0 at Marks Tennis Stadium.
The Ducks held their own against two ranked doubles teams. Nina Geissler and Karin Young were tied with 56th-ranked Parker Fry and Grace Piper before losing on court three, 6-4. Jo-Yee Chan and Sophie Luescher, playing at the top doubles spot in the lineup, trailed No. 20 Eryn Cayetano and Emma Charney 5-4 when the doubles point was decided.
The Trojans' singles lineup saw ranked players in each of the top three positions, with No. 105 Snow Han and No. 36 Charney each winning in straight sets at the top two spots, respectively. USC grabbed its second team point of the afternoon with McKenna Koenig's 6-2, 6-3 win over Young at No. 5.
Freshman Candela Aparisi was near victory when the match was clinched, as she led Immi Haddad 6-0, 5-4 at No. 6 singles. Both Chan and Uxia Martinez Moral, who each dropped their opening sets, were leading in the second sets of their respective matches when the match was decided.
Chan led 6-5 in the second against 83rd-ranked Cayetano after dropping the first set 6-1. Martinez Moral lost her first set to Sloane Morra 6-3 and led 3-1 in the second.
All 11 of Oregon's losses this season have come against teams currently ranked in the ITA's top-75 poll, including 10 inside the nation's top 50.
The Ducks stay in Los Angeles to take on No. 15 UCLA Saturday at 10 a.m. in their regular-season finale.
