04/13/24 | Women's Tennis
LOS ANGELES – The No. 67 Oregon women's tennis team earned a win during doubles action against No. 15 UCLA Saturday, but the Bruins came away with a 5-0 win in the Ducks' regular-season finale at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
The Ducks and Bruins split victories at Nos. 2 and 3, with Uxia Martinez Moral and Olivia Symons earning a comfortable 6-1 win over on court three over Bianca Fernandez and Ahmani Guichard. It marked the first time this season that Martinez Moral and Symons have been paired together, with Symons picking up her second dual doubles win.
The doubles point came down to a battle between the teams' top doubles pairings. Jo-Yee Chan and Sophie Luescher and the nation's 36th-ranked tandem of Tian Fangran and Elise Wagle traded games throughout their set, but the Bruins' pair hung on for a 7-5 win to clinch the doubles point.
UCLA went on to win in straight sets at each of the top four singles spots for its sixth straight win and 14th victory over the last 15 contests overall.
Both Candela Aparisi and Karin Young managed 7-5 wins in the first set of their respective matches before the final point was decided. Aparisi bested Mila Jovic on court six while Young outlasted Guichard at No. 5. Young and Guichard were tied 3-3 in the second set when the match concluded.
Luescher, playing all season at the top position in the lineup, has now faced a team-high 10 ranked opponents this spring, including each of her last four matches. On the doubles side, she and Chan have taken on four consecutive ranked doubles teams playing at the No. 1 position.
Nina Geissler and Chan have both also been met by a ranked foe in each of their last four matches, playing at the second and third spots in the Ducks' singles lineup, respectively.
All 12 of Oregon's losses this season have come against teams currently ranked in the ITA's top-75 poll, including 11 inside the nation's top 50.
The Ducks will next compete at the 2024 Pac-12 Championship on Wednesday, April 24 at Weil Tennis Academy in Ojai, Calif.
