EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon women's basketball alums Nyara and Satou Sabally are headed to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games with Team Germany, as the sisters were named to Germany's official Olympic roster Monday.
The former Duck duo helped Team Germany qualify for its first-ever Olympic Games. Germany begins pool play on Monday, July 29 against Belgium. Germany's group phase continues on Thursday, Aug. 1 against Japan and concludes against the United States on Sunday, Aug. 4.
Nyara Sabally played at UO from 2018-22 while Satou Sabally starred for three seasons from 2018-22, as both were part of the Ducks' Final Four squad in 2019. Both were first-round picks in the WNBA Draft, with Satou going second overall to the Dallas Wings in the 2020 Draft and Nyara being selected fifth overall by the New York Liberty in 2022.
Nyara was a two-time all-Pac-12 selection and finished her collegiate career averaging 13.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Satou claimed the 2020 Cheryl Miller Award as the nation's premier small forward, as she averaged 16.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
The pair mark the third and fourth former Ducks headed to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, joining Sabrina Ionescu (USA) and Maite Cazorla (Spain) who were each named to their respective country's rosters.
