Ducks Extend Winning Streak to 10

The No. 11 Oregon volleyball team beat Indiana in four sets to improve to 2-0 in Big Ten play.
EUGENE, Ore. — The No. 11 Oregon volleyball team extended its winning streak to 10 with a 3-1 home win Saturday evening over Indiana. Mimi Colyer and Michelle Ohwobete each had a double-double and the Ducks registered 11.0 total team blocks. With the victory, Oregon improves to 10-1 with a 2-0 start in its first Big Ten season.

Colyer had 17 kills—hitting .318, in the process—and 13 digs, both team-high marks. Ohwobete posted 12 kills, 12 digs and five assists to complete her third double-double of the season. Fellow senior Onye Ofoegbu was the third Duck in double figures, adding 10 kills to go along with seven blocks.

Defensive specialists Mackenzie Morris and Daley McClellan tallied 11 and 10 digs, respectively, behind the UO block.

How It Happened: In a first set that featured eight ties and four lead changes, Indiana (7-5, 0-2) held a 23-21 lead after a service error by Colyer. The Ducks pushed back with a three-point surge, a run that including kills from Ofoegbu and Colby Neal out of the middle. The Hoosiers' Avry Tatum tied the score with a kill but Colyer responded with a kill of her own to give UO a second set point.

Neal and Noemie Glover teamed up for a block to end the next rally and give the Ducks the 1-0 match lead.

Tatum led all players with 24 kills for Indiana.

The visitors shook off the first-set loss by jumping out to a 5-0 advantage behind the serve of Camryn Haworth. She had two aces during the stretch and five in the match. Oregon corrected its play to pull even at 6-6 with an Ohwobete kill. The Ducks began to inch ahead and built a lead of four on multiple occasions, lastly at 23-19.

Another serving run by Indiana, this time by Delaynie Maple, produced a four-point surge and a tie at 23-all. The teams exchanged kills until the score was once again tied at 25. With a two-set lead on the horizon, setter Cristin Cline turned to Colyer and Ohwobete who each delivered a kill to clinch the set.

Cline finished the match with 41 assists, six digs, five kills and two blocks.

The Ducks led 12-8 in the third set before Indiana rattled off six of the next seven points for the 14-13, and never trailed again. Oregon fought off one set point with a kill by Glover but Tatum came through with a kill to get the Hoosiers on the match scoreboard.

The only lead change of the fourth set came within the first seven points; UO erased an early 2-0 hole and went ahead 4-3 on a solo block by Glover. The Ducks built a lead as much as seven points, the first time at 14-7 with the help of consecutive Colyer aces.

With Oregon leading 20-13, the Hoosiers put together another 6-1 run that got them within two points of the home team; UO led 21-19. A Cline-Ofoegbu block and IU attack error extended the lead back to four at 23-19. On the team's second match point, Neal's initial attack was dug back over the net where the Poway, Calif., native was waiting to put away the final kill.

Up Next: The Ducks take on their first Big Ten road trip next weekend with matches at Ohio State and Penn State, another back-to-back slate beginning Thursday in Columbus. Oregon's next home match is Wednesday, Oct. 9, against USC.
