Ducks Take Two in Tempe
02/14/25 | Softball
TEMPE, Ariz. – Starting pitchers Taylour Spencer and Elise Sokolsky combined to allow just two hits over 10 innings, while Paige Sinicki homered and drove in four runs as No. 21 Oregon swept a pair of games against North Dakota and Weber State Friday at the Littlewood Classic.
Spencer allowed no hits over five innings in the Ducks' 9-0 win over North Dakota Friday morning, while Sokolsky surrendered just one run on two hits over five innings as Oregon (7-1) stopped Weber State, 9-1, in the afternoon.
Sinicki, Stefini Ma'ake and Rylee McCoy hit home runs against North Dakota, while McCoy was 3-for-3 with three RBI in the afternoon game as Oregon bounced back from their first loss of the season on Thursday.
"Last night was a tough game but I think we wanted to come out and be different, be better and just have fun," said Spencer, who struck out a career-high five batters.
Kai Luschar tied her own school record with four stolen bases against North Dakota.
The Ducks reached two more scoring records on Friday. The nine runs versus North Dakota gave Oregon 85 in seven games – one run better than the previous mark of 84 in 2015. Then with another nine runs against Weber State, the 2025 team tied the 2015 squad for most runs scored in any eight-game span – 94.
How It Happened Game 1 (Oregon 9, North Dakota 0): Spencer faced the minimum through four innings, issuing only a walk in the third inning. That runner was erased when Emma Cox threw her out at second base on an attempted steal.
After being lifted for Rowan Thompson in the fifth inning, Spencer (1-1) reentered the game with the bases loaded and no outs and started a 1-2-3 double play for the first two outs of the inning. She then struck out the final batter of the inning to give the Ducks a run-rule win in five innings.
"Being able to come out there and play with my girls again, it was so much fun," said Spencer. "Being able to feed off of them from the defense and offense. and being able to go out there and do what I usually do felt pretty good.
"My off-speed was the thing that was helping me a lot. I think bringing that out later in the game and giving them a different look really helped. Being able to work ahead really helped me."
Offensively, Luschar used her speed to score a run in the top of the first. She drew a full-count walk, stole second and third before racing home on a wild pitch.
Sinicki came through her with third home run of the season with two outs in the third inning. Cox led off with a walk. Two outs later, Sinicki drilled the first pitch she saw from UND pitcher Unity Nelson over the wall in left centerfield to give the Ducks a 3-0 lead.
The Ducks put the game away with a six-run fifth inning. Cox led off with a double and was on base when Ma'ake launched a drive over the scoreboard in left field for her second home run of the season. That made it 5-0.
Dezianna Patmon kept the rally going with a single and Sinicki followed with a bunt single. North Dakota made two throwing errors on the play that allowed both runners to score and Oregon led 7-0.
McCoy made it 8-0 with her second home run of the season, a line drive to right field.
Just as she did in the first inning, Luschar used her speed to cap Oregon's scoring in the fifth. She drew a two-out walk, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Kaylynn Jones's double plated Luschar with the Ducks' ninth run of the game.
How It Happened Game 2 (Oregon 9, Weber State 1): The Wildcats (3-4) scored a run in the top of the first inning before Oregon answered with four runs in the bottom of both the first and second innings for an early 8-1 lead.
Luschar led off the first with a single and stole second – her fifth steal of the day and her NCAA-leading 15th steal of the season. Cox brought Luschar around with a double to right. It was Cox's team-best fourth double of the season. One out later, Patmon's single scored Cox.
Sinicki then doubled to score Patmon, and Sinicki came home on McCoy's RBI single.
The Ducks scored all four of their runs in the second inning with two outs.
Cox got things going with a single into left and scored on Ma'ake's double.
After a brief 13-minute rain delay, Patmon doubled Ma'ake home. Patmon went to third on a single off the bat of Sinicki, who proceeded to steal second. McCoy drove in both runs with a single through the right side.
The Ducks ended the game via the run rule in the sixth inning. Abby Mulvey reached on an error. Jones pinch-ran for her and stole second. Trinity Holden walked before Regan Legg struck out. Briaesey Rosa moved both runners over with a ground out to the right side.
Remmington Hewitt ended the game with a sharp one-hopper up the middle that brought Jones home with Oregon's ninth run of the game.
Sokolsky didn't allow a hit after giving up a run on a double and a triple in the first inning. She struck out six and didn't walk a batter in five innings to pick up her first win of the season.
Notable: Luschar jumped up the UO career steals list with five on Friday. She now has 63 carer steals, which is tied for third with Haley Cruse (2017-21). Luschar passed Julie Cavanaugh (58/1998-91), Marnie McCall (58/1991-92) and Jill Robinson (60/1997-00) … As a team, Oregon collected nine more stolen bases on Friday to give them an NCAA-best 45 steals on the year. In addition to Luschar's five, Jones, Legg, Sinicki and Kedre Luschar all had one steal … Cox was a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs on Friday … Sinicki went 4-for-5 and made her 136th and 137th consecutive starts at shortstop.

Infielder Rylee McCoy on her four RBI day
"It did feel good. Just wanting to hit for my pitchers. They're working so hard and I just wanted to score some runs for them. I love playing behind Lyndsey and Taylour and Elise and all of them. You want to get every ball and make every play for them."
Up Next: Oregon changes venues for the second half of the Littlewood Classic. The Ducks will play Utah Valley (9:30 a.m.) and Grand Canyon (3 p.m.) Saturday at GCU Softball Stadium, and Belmont (8 a.m.) on Sunday.
