Three-Point Barrage Sinks Scarlet Knights
02/16/25 | Men's Basketball
The Oregon men's basketball team made a season-high 13 threes to beat Rutgers on Sunday.
EUGENE, Ore. — The mood around the Oregon men's basketball team after Tuesday's win over Northwestern, which snapped a losing streak, was something along the lines of relief.
The Ducks hadn't been perfect, allowing a second straight opponent to score 50 second-half points. But they'd ended their skid.
Come Sunday, after another victory for the UO men, the mood was even more upbeat. Oregon (18-8, 7-8 Big Ten) made a season-high 13 three-pointers and held a talented Rutgers team to just 24 points in the second half, as the Ducks won 75-57 before 8,635 fans in Matthew Knight Arena.
"We felt like we played a full 40 minutes," UO sophomore Jackson Shelstad said. "Last couple games we've been up but we let teams get back into it. So tonight, we just kept our foot on the gas."
Shelstad scored 19 points to lead the Ducks, and was one of five UO men to hit multiple three-pointers. Nate Bittle added 15 points with 10 rebounds and also blocked five shots, providing a level of rim protection that has been an X factor for Oregon when the Ducks have been at their best this season.

"I think it gives (teammates) the confidence to get up and pressure the ball, and know that if they do get beat I'm down there to help them," Bittle said.
How It Happened: Oregon didn't take its first lead of the game until late in the first half. The opening minutes were back-and-forth, with Keeshawn Barthelemy and Brandon Angel hitting three-pointers for the Ducks before Rutgers used a 5-0 run to take its biggest lead of the night, at 21-14.
Kwame Evans Jr. ended that spurt with another three-pointer, and Shelstad followed with a layup in transition. A three from Jadrian Tracey got Oregon within one at 23-22, and moments later TJ Bamba hit a three during a 6-0 run that put the Ducks up for good, 28-27.
That 6-0 run began with a dunk by Bittle, and sparked an overall 16-6 run to close the first half and give Oregon a 38-33 lead at halftime.

"The last 10 minutes of the first half we started getting after them, and that just led us into halftime talking about what we did in the last 10 minutes … and to do that the rest of the second half," Bittle said.
The Scarlet Knight opened the second half with two buckets to get back within one, 38-37. But Bittle scored the next five points of the game, including the first of seven UO three-pointers over a 13-minute span — three by Shelstad, two for Bittle and one each for Evans and Tracey.
Bittle's second three of the half capped a 7-0 run that gave the Ducks their biggest lead, 69-50, as Oregon led by double digits for the majority of the second half.
Up Next: The Ducks play Wednesday at Iowa (5:30 p.m., BTN).
