Ducks Push No. 18 USC Sunday
03/16/25 | Women's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. – Going up against its third ranked opponent in four matches to open conference play, the Oregon women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision against No. 18 USC on Sunday at the UO Student Tennis Center.
With two doubles teams ranked in the top 50, the Trojans stole the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. UO's top pair of Tilde Jagare and Juliet Santitto faced their second straight top-10 opponent, falling 6-3. At second doubles, Bridget Mihulka and Karin Young led No. 44 Jana Hossam and Sloane Morra 5-2 when the point was decided.
The Ducks started singles strong, winning the first set in three of the six matches. Jagare, Mihulka and Souza each claimed the first set of their respective matches, with Souza matching up against the nation's 47th-ranked player in Grace Piper.
All three of those matches ended up going to a third set, with two unable to be completed after USC clinched three singles points for the 4-0 victory. Mihulka was level with her opponent in the third set and Santitto was on the brink of forcing her match on court six into a third, leading 5-4 in the second.
The Trojans picked up singles wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 4, with all three wins coming from top-75 players. Souza, playing at No. 1 in the Ducks' lineup, faced her second straight top-50 opponent and third ranked foe of the spring season.
Through 13 spring matches, Oregon's doubles teams are a combined 17-16 to go with a 33-26 singles mark.
The Ducks travel to the Midwest for a pair of matches next week, visiting No. 46 Illinois on Saturday (11 a.m.) and No. 38 Northwestern on Monday (2:30 p.m.).
