
Oregon Drops Match at Illinois

URBANA, Ill. – Facing its third straight ranked opponent, and fourth in five matches to open Big Ten play, the Oregon women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision at 45th-ranked Illinois at Atkins Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Ducks (7-7, 0-5) snagged the doubles point for the first time in conference play, getting wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Bridget Mihulka and Karin Young handled business on court two, 6-1, while Candela Aparisi and Marjorie Souza outlasted their Illini counterpart 6-4 at No. 3 to earn a 1-0 lead.
The two doubles wins marked the first for UO during Big Ten play, as Mihulka and Young moved to 3-2 this spring and Aparisi and Souza improved to 6-1.
The Illini (8-8, 3-2) responded by taking four singles matches – all in straight sets – with victories on courts one, two, three and five. The Ducks trailed by a set in the remaining two matches.
Through 14 spring matches, Oregon's doubles teams are a combined 19-17 to go with a 33-30 singles mark. Oregon has faced five ranked teams this spring, and will take on a sixth on Monday at No. 39 Northwestern (2:30 p.m. PT.).
