Football Practice Report: April 1
04/01/25 | Football
The Ducks resumed spring practice Tuesday in Autzen Stadium following a two-week pause.
Spring practice resumed for the Oregon football team Tuesday in Autzen Stadium, after a two-week pause for winter quarter final exams and then spring break.
The Ducks will now practice each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in April, leading up to the Spring Game in Autzen Stadium on April 26. The previous two Saturdays, April 12 and April 19, also will feature scrimmages in Autzen.
With spring quarter at the university underway as of Monday, the Ducks welcomed four newcomers to practice Tuesday — defensive backs Theran Johnson, Jadon Canady and Brandon Finney, and running back Dierre Hill Jr. Johnson and Canady arrived via the portal, while Finney and Hill are freshmen.
Following Tuesday's practice, head coach Dan Lanning met with local media, as did linebacker Bryce Boettcher and offensive lineman Iapani Laloulu. Video of those interviews is embedded below.

Some highlights from coach Lanning …
On the resumption of practice Tuesday: "Good day today coming back from spring break. This is one of those practices you always want to figure out where guys were at over the break. We took some good steps forward, but there's a lot of room for us to improve as a team right now. We've got a lot of talent, not a lot of experience; we've talked about that. But I'm excited about the direction of our guys — they want to get better, they want to improve. That's what these practices are for."
On the challenges for a coach in spring ball: "What's great about football is, every single day is a different challenge. You don't know what it's going to be when you get out of bed. What we can do to control it, our organization, is the way we teach. For us, every single day those guys step into the classroom or step into our meeting room, it should feel like they're going to a class session. There's a lesson plan, there's objectives for the day. And how you grade that is, do we execute that on the field in that practice? And if we don't, then how can we teach it better and how can we execute it better? So every day is different."
On deciding which guys can work at multiple positions: "It's always a tough dynamic. We chart it throughout the spring, where guys are working at multiple spots. We want to try to challenge guys to be able to do as much as they can for the team. And you kind of figure that out as it goes — can this guy handle a little bit more? Maybe when you work somebody at a different position, you work a few different calls that are a little simpler for them as well. But we become the best version of ourselves when we have our best 11 on the field, and that sometimes means guys working at multiple spots. That gives us that chance."
