Ducks Pepper Gophers with 14 Hits in 13-0 Win
04/11/25 | Softball
MINNEAPOLIS – Dezianna Patmon's homer in the third inning set the stage for a seven-run fourth and a five-run fifth as No. 4 Oregon run-ruled Minnesota, 13-0, in five innings Friday at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium.
The Ducks only had two extra base hits in the game – Patmon's homer and a double from Rylee McCoy – but kept passing the bat to grind out 14 hits, while Lyndsey Grein and Staci Chambers combined on a two-hit shut out.
Oregon improved to 36-4 overall and shares the Big Ten lead at 10-1 with UCLA.
"We talked about just resetting and getting back to Duck softball," said Patmon, who sparked the Ducks' bounce-back game following Monday's surprising 5-3 loss to LMU. "We went out there and executed and that's exactly what Duck softball is."
How It Happened: The Golden Gophers (14-24) threatened in the bottom of the first with two runners on and one out, but Braiesey Rosa threw out a runner trying to advance to third before Grein ended the inning with her second strikeout of the frame.
Grein allowed one hit in 4.0 innings and struck out four to improve to 20-1. She leads the nation in victories. Chambers struck out one and allowed one hit in her one inning of work in the fifth.
The offense provided more than enough support.
Patmon led off the top of the third with her eighth home run of the season, a blast that easily cleared the wall in left, to give Oregon a 1-0 lead.
"Leading off in a 0-0 ball game we needed some fire underneath us just to get us going," said Patmon. "I glad I was the one to kind of get that started for us."
The Ducks sent 12 runners to the plate in their seven-run fourth inning.
Kedre Luschar got the rally going with a one-out single and stole second. Katie Flannery walked and Stefini Ma'ake was safe on a fielder's choice as Luschar beat the throw to third.
Rosa's ground out drove in the Ducks' first run of the inning. Oregon then strung six two-out hits together.
Patmon drove in her second run of the game with a single to left.
Kaylynn Jones hit one back up the middle to drive in another run and make it 4-0 Oregon.
Kai Luschar reached on a bunt single that scored Patmon and a throwing error on the play allowed Jones to score and it was 6-0.
Paige Sinicki followed with a single and stole second and both Kai Luschar and Sinicki scored on McCoy's double into right.
The Ducks' seven-run fourth made it 8-0.
For good measure, Oregon added five more runs in the fifth inning.
Ma'ake led off with a single. Emma Cox pinch-hit for Rosa and pulled a single over the bag at third. Ayanna Shaw bunted for a hit to load the bases.
A run scored on Jones' fielder's choice and another came in on an error with Remmington Hewitt batting.
Sinicki singled to plate the Ducks 11th run of the game.
McCoy drove in Kai Luschar with a single for her third RBI of the day. Kedre Luschar's sacrifice fly brought Sinicki home with the Ducks' 13th and final run.
Stolen Bases Watch
