Vinijchaitham's 71 Leads Ducks In Round One
04/07/25 | Women's Golf
NAPA, Calif. - The Oregon women's golf team is in sixth place through 18 holes at the 2025 Chevron Silverado Showdown after carding a 7-over 295 in the opening round on Monday at Silverado Country Club and Resort.
The No. 3 Ducks - playing this week without standout sophomores Kiara Romero and Karen Tsuru - were led by a 1-under 71 from freshman Suvichaya Vinijchaitham.
No. 10 Northwestern and Cal State Fullerton are currently tied for the team lead at 1-under par, followed by No. 3 USC in third at 2 over and both California and Iowa State in a tie for fourth at 3 over.
How it Happened: Vinijchaitham put together a very steady opening round after playing at the Augusta National Women's Amateur over the weekend, making par on each of her first 10 holes. The freshman carded birdies at No. 11 and No. 13 around a bogey at No. 12, and then closed with five consecutive pars to come in with a 1-under 71.
It was the 12th par-or-better round of the season for Vinijchaitham, who is tied for sixth overall after Monday's round. Cal State Fullerton's Kaitlyn Zermeno Smith leads the field at 6-under par, followed by a four-way tie for second at 2 under.
Sophomore Ting-Hsuan Huang came in with a 2-over 74, shooting 2 under on the back nine after carding four bogeys on the front. Oregon's counting scores were rounded out by junior Anika Varma and freshman Tong An, who each finished with a 3-over 75. Varma was even on the back nine, and An was 1 under without a bogey across her final nine holes.
Ducks on the Leaderboard:
6. Oregon — 295 (-7)
T6. Suvichaya Vinijchaitham — 71 (-1)
T30. Ting-Hsuan Huang — 74 (+2)
T38. Tong An — 75 (+3)
T38. Anika Varma — 75 (+3)
T54. Sonja Tang — 77 (+5)
T54. Darae Chung (Ind.) — 77 (+5)
Notable: Romero is out of the lineup this week after tying for seventh overall at the Augusta National Women's Amateur over the weekend, and Tsuru is resting a minor injury ahead of postseason play ... Varma, Tang and Chung all made their first appearance of the spring, with Chung competing as an individual ... Oregon is tied for the best score in the field on par-5s so far at 6 under.
Up Next: Round two of the Silverado Showdown will begin at 8:30 a.m. PT on Tuesday morning. The Ducks will tee off of hole No. 1 beginning with Tang at 8:42 a.m.
