
Grein Named Top 10 Player of the Year Finalist

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon pitcher Lyndsey Grein was named one of 10 finalists for USA Softball's National Player of the Year award on Wednesday.

She is the fifth Duck all-time to be named to the USA Softball Top 10 and the first since Cheridan Hawkins in 2015.

The unanimous all-Big Ten first team selection is second in the NCAA with 26 wins. She is also in the top 20 nationally in strikeouts (194, 15th), strikeouts per seven innings (9.1, 13th), fewest hits allowed per seven innings (4.24, ninth) and WHIP (0.99, 18th).

The junior from Mokena, Ill., is 26-2 on the season with a 1.93 earned run average. She has allowed 45 runs – 41 earned – on 90 hits and has 194 strikeouts in 148.2 innings pitched. She has appeared in 43 games which ranks second in the NCAA.

Against five Top 25 opponents this season, Grein is 5-0 with a 0.00 ERA. In six games, she has 33 strikeouts, and allowed 12 hits and no runs in 28.0 innings. She threw a three-hit shutout of No. 6 UCLA on April 20 and tossed a one-hit shutout against No. 8 Florida State on March 7.

This season, Grein was named the national pitcher of the week twice by the NFCA and has been the Big Ten pitcher of the week twice.

The Top 10 Finalists will be narrowed down to three athletes on May 19. The 2025 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be revealed prior to the Women's College World Series.

Oregon opens NCAA Regional play by hosting Weber State Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Jane Sanders Stadium. Stanford and Binghamton are also in the Eugene Regional.
