Ducks Vanquish Scarlet Knights In New Jersey
01/28/26 | Women's Basketball
Oregon went on the road and dominated Rutgers on Wednesday.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. — About the only category that Rutgers won in Wednesday's Big Ten match-up was bench scoring. As dominant as Oregon's starting five was, it hardly mattered.
The UO women's basketball team (16-8, 4-6 Big Ten) has won back-to-back conference games for the second time this season, after the Ducks went into Jersey Mike's Arena on Wednesday and beat the Scarlet Knights, 74-53. Oregon's starting five scored 59 points to outscore the entire home team, led by 17 points and nine rebounds from Ehis Etute and Ari Long's first career double-double.
Long had 12 points with 12 rebounds, double her previous career high. She had six rebounds in the second quarter alone Wednesday, when the Ducks broke open the game by outscoring Rutgers, 25-9.

"She was just making things happen, and we got it rolling," UO coach Kelly Graves said. "And once we got it rolling, it just seemed like everything was going in for us. And it was kind of a team effort, too."
Katie Fiso added 12 points with seven assists for the Ducks, Mia Jacobs scored 10, fifth starter Sofia Bell had eight and Avary Cain scored nine off the bench. Long had four steals and three assists to go with her first collegiate double-double.
"She's just being aggressive," Graves said. "And whatever she gives us at the offensive end is a bonus. Her value to the team is, she just disrupts the other team's offense. You see her in there, inside, just grabbing it from people. And usually when she gets her hands on it, she takes it."

The Ducks outscored the Scarlet Knights by 29 points during Long's 27 minutes of action Wednesday, the best plus-minus on the team, just ahead of Etute at plus-27 in 24 minutes. They helped the Ducks to a 45-30 advantage in rebounds, with 33 of those rebounds coming from the UO starters.
"I think for me, defense is always just a controllable, and I kind of try to just make things happen there," Long said. "When I get a steal or do something, it just kind of puts me in that next gear, and then I want to go do it again. I'm a little more hungry. I just think I try to read things and see things, and hopefully just try to make something happen from it, and just try to be solid and do what the team needs."

How It Happened: Jacobs knocked down a three-pointer on the Ducks' opening possession, only to see Oregon go cold over the next three and a half minutes of game time. UO missed its next five shots before a Bell triple that tied the score, 6-6, with under six minutes remaining in the first quarter. Bell's three sparked a 7-0 run over 90 seconds, forcing a Rutgers timeout.
With the score tied and the clock winding down, Etute grabbed a rebound and then pushed the ball up the floor before hitting a running buzzer-beater to give UO a 19-16 lead after 10 minutes. Etute and Bell each turned in five points while Fiso finished with six points in the quarter.
The Ducks began to separate at the start of the second quarter, outscoring Rutgers 19-4 over the first seven minutes. Oregon won the quarter 25-9, as seven Ducks got into the scoring column, led by six points on a pair of threes by Cain.

Etute added eight more points to her total in the third quarter, with six of those coming during an 11-0 run that opened up a 27-point lead. Long scored five points, including a three-pointer, helping the Ducks shoot 9-of-16 and take a 65-43 lead into the final frame.
The Ducks coasted to the finish line, scoring just nine points in the fourth while limiting Rutgers to 10 points. UO shot just 3-of-13 in the quarter, but held the Scarlet Knights to 3-of-15 from the field. Oregon finished the game shooting at a 45 percent clip compared to 36 percent shooting by Rutgers. UO owned a 45-30 rebounding edge and a 25-11 lead in fastbreak points.
