Ducks Pick up 20th Win at Purdue
02/25/26 | Women's Basketball
Fiso scores 19, Etute adds 17 in 71-65 road win.
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – For the second straight year, and ninth time under head coach Kelly Graves, Oregon is a 20-game winner.
The Ducks got 19 points from Katie Fiso and 17 points and eight rebounds from Ehis Etute, while converting 21 turnovers into 31 points in a 71-65 road win at Purdue Wednesday evening at Mackey Arena.
"Where we won the game tonight was with our defense," said Graves after the game. "Sometimes we get a little conservative, tonight we just decided right from the get-go we were going to get back into our signature three-quarter court 1-2-2 (zone). And it slowed them down, got them out of their rhythm and created some steals out of it, and easy baskets at the other end."
The Ducks (20-10, 8-9) tallied 16 steals, their most in a Big Ten game this season, getting a career-high five from Sofia Bell and a season-high-tying four from Ari Long.
"I thought Ari Long, defensively, was outstanding in that first half," Graves added. "We had 27 disruptions in the first half, and I think she had a dozen by herself. Defensively, she's relentless and we needed it tonight."
The score was tied after the first quarter, but Oregon created its most separation in the second quarter after outscoring the Boilermakers 22-11. Six Ducks got into the scoring column in the quarter, while nine points came off of five Purdue turnovers.
Fiso and Etute spearheaded the offense in the second half, scoring 11 and nine points, respectively, in the half to account for 20 of UO's 32 points. Fiso finished the game with four assists and two steals in picking up the Ducks' fourth Big Ten road win of the year.
"The little floater game was working for her in the lane and she didn't force it, "Graves said of Fiso's performance. "I just so proud of her. She's showing signs of getting better, game-in and game-out."
How It Happened: Oregon opened the game on a 9-0 run over the game's first 2:38, hitting on four of its first six shots from the floor from three different players in that stretch. Purdue retaliated by scoring the next seven to climb within two as the game hit the first media timeout. Six Ducks got into the scoring column in the first quarter as the score was level at 17 after 10 minutes.
The Ducks scored the first five points of the second quarter, including Bell's second 3-pointer of the day, in starting the frame on an 11-4 run to open up a seven-point lead and force a Purdue timeout. Later in the quarter, the Boilermakers clawed within two points, but UO closed the half by scoring nine unanswered points to carry a 39-28 lead into the locker room.
Bell paced Oregon's offense with nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc while also adding three assists, three steals and two rebounds in the half. Etute and Fiso each added eight points, with Fiso handing out four assists and Etute hauling in six boards. UO's defense forced a dozen Purdue turnovers off nine steals, resulting in 19 points.
"Sofia carried us in the first half with the three ball, and it really set up the inside game," Graves said.
The teams played a fairly even third quarter, as neither side put together a scoring run longer than five points. Purdue won the quarter 13-12, hitting a jumper in the closing seconds to pull within 10. Fiso added eight points to up her total to 16 through three quarter, while Etute pitched in four points.
Every time the Ducks tried to put away the Boilermakers for good in the fourth quarter, Purdue would have an answer. Oregon led by as many as 14 points in the final quarter, but that lead was twice trimmed to five points within the last 30 seconds. The offense converted 9-of-12 free throws down the stretch, while the defense forced nine Boilermaker turnovers to seal its 20th win of the season.
